When Aaron Marshall Irish was born on September 20, 1820, in Hebron, Connecticut, his father, Joseph, was 24 and his mother, Miriam, was 22. He married Hannah Ann Penney and they had six children together between 1846 and 1867. He died on November 20, 1883, in Hebron, Maine, at the age of 63, and was buried in West Paris, Maine.

According to Aaron's grandson, Thomas H. Taylor (1896-1978), "Aaron was a farmer and railroad construction foreman; he worked on track from Portland Maine to Montreal, Canada. The Irish family descended from five brothers who emigrated from England to Falmouth, Maine around 1632."
